Lifestyle changes
• Smoking cessation
• Elevating the head of the bed
Medical treatments
• Controlling the thyroid hormone levels with medication to decrease production of thyroid hormone (propylthiouracil) or ablation of the thyroid followed by taking thyroid hormone pills (synthroid)
• Use of artificial tears, lid taping at night, and/or lubricant if exposure of cornea due to TED
• Anti-inflammatory medications (corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications)
• Diuretics
• Orbital radiation therapy (a controversial therapy)
